Advent Calendar Ideas for Couples: 24 Days of Small Gifts and Dates

Updated 2026-11-03

An advent calendar for a partner works best when it is not 24 small presents. The ones people remember mix a few treats with notes, shared plans and tiny dates you actually do together. That also keeps the cost sensible. Here is a ready-made 24-day plan, followed by budget, long-distance and 12-day versions.

Before you start: three decisions

A 24-day plan for couples

Weekdays are kept quick and the bigger plans fall on the weekends of December 2026 (5-6, 12-13 and 19-20 December). Move them to fit your own diary.

If your partner does not drink, swap day 15 for good coffee, a craft hot chocolate or their favourite sweets.

Ideas by budget

Write your plan on paper before shopping and tick off each door as you buy. That stops the classic mistake of buying 18 treats and running out of ideas at day 19.

Long-distance version

For a partner far away, everything needs to be flat and posted in one go, ideally by mid-November to allow for holiday post. Use 24 numbered envelopes in one large envelope or a slim box:

Check the delivery country's customs rules before posting food.

Open-together version

If you open the calendar together each evening, put the activity in the pocket instead of the gift: "make cocoa and play cards", "five-minute dance in the kitchen", "write next year's bucket list", "phones away, board game". It becomes a nightly date that costs almost nothing. Our 24 free activity ideas include many that work for two.

The 12-day version

Short on time? Run a 12-day calendar from 13 to 24 December. Keep doors 1, 5, 12, 19, 22 and 24 from the plan above, and add six favourites from the lists here.
